A little more about me...
I grew up in Overland Park and lived there until I went away to college in 1986. I have attended both private and public schools: Queen of the Holy Rosary Elementary School and Bishop Miege High School here in Johnson County, and the University of Kansas at Lawrence for college and law school. After law school, my wife and I moved to Lenexa in 1997 and have lived here since that time.
I have a small business that I run, my own law office. I practice in both civil and criminal law, and help folks with everything ranging from traffic tickets to small business incorporations. This experience has helped me learn to deal with a wide variety of people and problems, a skill I would bring to the Legislature.
When I am not practicing law, I enjoy competitive sports and have attended several national and regional level competitions in the past several years. I also volunteer my time to work with the local clubs that host these competitions. I served as the director for a regional competition the last two years that brought almost 250 people to Lenexa each year over a weekend. These competitors stayed at hotels, ate at restaurants, and shopped at stores in and near the 30th district.
The past several months, I have served on Attorney General Phill Kline’s advisory committee, helping write rules, regulations, and standards to implement a new law passed this spring. I have worked on behalf of grassroots activists to have several new laws passed during the past few years, and have developed good working relationships with many legislators during that time.
I want to serve in the Legislature so that I can continue serving those in the district on a broader basis. I want to bring new small businesses to the district and expand existing businesses, help protect property values with fair tax rates and great school districts, and ensure that the residents of the district get fair treatment on issues like school finance or tuition for children of taxpayers.
